Barb Thom always enjoyed the theatre. In her life, she has enjoyed many plays in many different theatres, but she has never been to the ‘Queen’ of all theatres, Stratford Festival.

Thanks to Bridge to Dreams, a resident-centred program implemented at Southbridge Care Homes’ Queensway Long-Term Care in Hensall, Barb lived her dream of enjoying a Stratford play.

Barb’s Dream began with a new outfit. She got her nails and makeup done. At 11:00 am, Barb and her friend Wanda were treated like royalty, walking across a red carpet and into a limo van, compliments of Wave Limo and tours.

Barb and her friend were taken to The Parlour Restaurant in Stratford. The staff were extremely welcoming and greeted her with three long-stemmed, red roses. Shortly after she sat down, Stratford councillor Kathy Vassilakos greeted and congratulated Barb on having her Dream fulfilled. Vassilakos presented Barb with a memento pin and beautiful hard-cover book depicting the sites of Stratford. Barb enjoyed crispy duck breast with a strawberry and red wine sauce. The chef had prepared a complimentary tray of assorted desserts for the table to enjoy following the meal.

Barb and her friend were then driven to the Stratford Festival, where they thoroughly enjoyed the Shakespearean play The Merry Wives of Windsor.

Following the play, Barb received a backstage tour provided by Paul Shaw, the company manager. Along the way, she met some of the actors. On the way home, she stopped for ice-cream to top off the day.

When asked about her day, Barb said, “some people get 15 minutes of fame, I got the whole day.”
