OWEN SOUND, ON – May 15, 2019 –
Local care homes have combined efforts to raise awareness and funds for the local Alzheimer’s Society. The residents and staff of Southbridge Long-Term Care homes Georgian Heights, Maple View and Errinrung participated in the annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s on May 11 in Owen Sound and Thornbury. In addition, the home in Thornbury held a community fundraising BBQ featuring music, food, games and a charity auction. The combined efforts of the homes were successful raising a combined $3,335 for the Grey-Bruce Alzheimer’s Society. Southbridge Managing Director Keith McIntosh presented a cheque to the Alzheimer’s Society of Grey-Bruce Executive Director, Stephen Musehl, at the Society’s office on May 21. “We at Southbridge feel that there has never been a greater need to join in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. One in three seniors will die from Alzheimer’s disease and women in their sixties are twice as likely to get dementia or Alzheimer’s as they are to get breast cancer,” said McIntosh. “We will continue to do our part by supporting organizations such as the Alzheimer’s
Society of Grey-Bruce to provide the support they need for the residents and families of this
region through our 5 homes spread throughout the Grey Bruce Region.”
