PORT HOPE, ON – May 25, 2019 –
Hope Street Terrace and Regency Long-Term Care have combined efforts to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. The residents and staff of Southbridge Long-Term Care Homes Hope Street Terrace and Regency Long-Term Care held an IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s on May 25 in Port Hope. In addition, they held a Community BBQ featuring food, games and a charity auction. The combined efforts of the homes were successful raising a combined $3,694 for the Peterborough Alzheimer’s Society. Earlier this month, Southbridge homes raised more than $3,300 for the Grey-Bruce Alzheimer’s Society. Staff and residents from both homes held their own Alzheimer’s Walk, a fun, family-friendly event open to anyone who wants to make life better for those living with dementia. Taking place this spring in over 300 communities from coast to coast, it is the country’s largest fundraiser benefiting individuals and families living with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia.

“We at Southbridge feel that there has never been a greater need to join in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease,” said Southbridge Managing Director Keith McIntosh. “One in three seniors will die from Alzheimer’s disease and women in their sixties are twice as likely to get dementia or Alzheimer’s as they are to get breast cancer.

“We will continue to do our part by supporting organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Society of Peterborough to provide the support they need for the residents and families of this region through our homes in Port Hope.” Hope Street Terrace is a 97-bed long-term care home located in the Town of Port Hope, on the north shore of Lake Ontario. It is a fully accredited home with a resident focused quality program ensuring the highest level of care for each resident.

Regency Long-Term Care Home is a 60-bed long-term care and retirement home. It is a fully accredited home with a person-centred quality program ensuring the highest level of care for every resident.
