Together with Sinai Health System’s Mount Sinai Hospital & the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation of Toronto, Southbridge Capital Inc. is pleased to announce its support of the Safe Patients/Safe Staff™ program for hospital and long-term care workers and their patients in Ontario.

The partnership with Southbridge will allow Mount Sinai Hospital to refine and develop its pilot program and explore opportunities to deploy teams out into the community and long-term care homes in order to provide specialized training for those working with older adults.

Of the partnership, Mike Petersen, President & CEO of Southbridge Capital Inc. stated, “We are pleased to partner with one of Canada’s most respected hospitals, working towards improving the lives of older adults in our care – whether it be in a hospital setting or long-term care home while enhancing staff knowledge and skills.”

Mount Sinai is one of the premier leaders in the care of older Canadians.  Leading the development of Ontario’s Seniors Strategy is Mount Sinai’s own Director of Geriatrics, Dr. Samir Sinha.  Of the partnership, Dr. Sinha remarked, “Mount Sinai is immensely grateful for this investment by Southbridge Capital Inc. New, innovative models of care that ensure that our older patients receive the right care, at the right time are best developed by clinical leaders, with public and philanthropic partnerships.  I believe that the Safe Patients/Safe Staff™ program is a terrific example of this partnership and will serve as a best practice for other health-care facilities.”

Highlights about the Safe Patients/Safe Staff™ program designed by Mount Sinai, include:

  • Specialized, proactive clinical service and staff training and risk management support to facilitate early recognition and support effective interventions to manage potentially dangerous behavioural problems in vulnerable patients with dementia and other serious mental health disorders, while providing a soothing, welcoming environment for patients.
  • Refining dementia screening & behavioural support management in order to ensure the safety of older patients and the staff who care for them
